Welcome!

Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by my blog! Here you'll find both posts where I document my sessions, as well as personal entries where I let my hair down so that you can get to know who I am...just a mommy and a wifey with my camera, living life (for now!) in Raleigh, NC. When considering what type of artist I would call myself, it's pretty simple: I'm a lifestyle photographer, passionate about photographing passionate people, from the feisty toddler to the beaming bride.

Up above you'll find links to my website where you can view more samples of my work, as well as a few different ways to contact me. But, if you'd rather just skip all that and email or call directly, feel free to do so! I'd love to hear from you!

Vintage Styled Shoot | Photography

We decided to kill two birds with one stone. What better way to build both of our portfolios, plus get some now rare girl time in, than to plan a vintage styled shoot? We basically played dress up for grown ups. It was a no brainer.

My good friend Stephanie Simpson and I collaborated around the idea of getting her some pictures to build her portfolio and showcase her work as a hair stylist, mainly done for weddings and other formal events. We decided it would be even more fun to style it as a vintage shoot, ask our girlfriends to be our models, and make an afternoon of it. Stephanie styled herself as well as our two other models, Melissa Ward and Chelsea Campbell; they all looked absolutely beautiful and I was in photographer heaven getting to shoot these stunning ladies and all of the details.

Stephanie is in the process of putting together a blog for her business, but in the meantime, if you’d like to contact her, be her friend on Facebook:) What did we do before Facebook?! I guess email, but FB is so much more fun!

Thanks, ladies, for such a fun afternoon! You all looked stunning :)

Model #2 and childhood friend, the fashion savvy Chelsea Campbell

Last but definitely not least, model #3 and the creativity and hands behind the styling, the truly talented Stephanie Simpson

My Mom’s Garden | Personal

It’s nearly impossible for me to hold back my tears, as it is for her. We both know that it’s just what has to happen, but that doesn’t make it any easier. As I walk away, pushing the stroller with one hand, holding my bags with the other, I make a point to wave until I can no longer see them. I know she will do the same. I enter the line of waiting travelers, and try to hold it together. Soon the flurry and stress of getting myself through security distracts me for a bit. Doing that alone used to be hard enough; with a stroller and bags, not to mention another pair of shoes to take off and on, makes it a tad bit more difficult. I see another mom who has two, how does she do it?

We settle in at our gate, open my Macbook, and she will be entertained by Woody and Buzz Lightyear, yet again, until boarding time. These few minutes of in between time allows the tears to creep back into my eyes. I can feel them stinging and welling. I text her that we got through the mayhem without a glitch, and I think I forgot Kung Fu Panda. And that I miss her already. She replies asking me why did I have to grow up? This just puts it over the edge. Not only because I feel the same way, that I’m sad to leave her and where I grew up, but also that one day I will be in her shoes. I already get emotional thinking about how Evelyn is not a baby anymore. She is still my baby, but not a baby.

Every time I go home, I dread it for the reason that I know I’ll shortly have to say good bye again. But, while I’m there, I make a point to soak in every moment. We spend a lot of time taking walks, and playing out back, in my mom’s garden. My mom is constantly re-inventing her space so that every time I go back, there are new details to capture. It’s a place where Evelyn can actually run around without me worrying, where my mom and I can sit in the early morning and drink our coffee, where I create memories of Evelyn through the many pictures taken back there, where we eat crabs, visit with friends, and just be with one another.

As I’m in the airport, feeling sad, or sitting here, missing her again, these are the memories I think about…

Classic Ev.

Absolutely love this photo. I feel like everything about it, the light, the colors, the softness, the simplicity, is exactly how I’d define my style.

My “little” brother Taylor. When did he grow up?

Caitlin + Adam | Sugarloaf Vineyard Engagement Photography

She was very patient with me. I, for whatever reason, took to calling Caitlin “Ashley” numerous times. I can’t even begin to tell you why. Lucky for me, Caitlin was so gracious and just laughed and smiled the several times I got her name wrong. I’m still baffled as to what I was thinking…

But enough about me. This post is about Caitlin + Adam. Not only are these two smart and attractive people (she is in nursing school, he is studying to be a dentist), they are incredibly fun, kind, and genuine. We met up at Sugarloaf Vineyard, a truly gorgeous setting, and immediately just fell in sync with one another.  After already having to cancel once due to bad weather, I was so happy we got a perfect, sunshine-y day :) Thank you Adam + Caitlin, for such a fun, relaxed session. You two are too cute with one another. Enjoy your pictures, your upcoming wedding, and the excitement of looking forward to spending your lives together…
